Gold Dust Day Gecko Care

Lifespan:

8-10 years in captivity.

Sexing:

Sexing is possible around 6-12 months of age. Males typically have larger, more defined femoral pores, as well as a more robust body compared to females.

Enclosure:

  • Juveniles: 10-gallon vertical enclosure (12"x12"x18").

  • Adults: 20-gallon vertical enclosure (18"x18"x24").

Substrate:

Use a loose substrate mix that retains moisture well, such as coconut fiber combined with sphagnum moss. This substrate will help maintain humidity levels and mimic the natural forest floor.

Lighting & Temperature:

  • Basking Area: 85-90°F.

  • Ambient Temperature: 75-78°F.

  • Cool Side: 70-75°F.

  • UVB Lighting: A 5.0 UVB bulb is recommended.

Humidity:

Humidity levels should be maintained between 60-80%. Mist the enclosure daily to maintain adequate humidity, which will also assist with shedding.

Food:

Gold Dust Day Geckos are omnivorous, with a diet primarily consisting of live insects such as small crickets, fruit flies, and mealworms. They also enjoy a variety of fruits and commercial powdered gecko diet mixed with water.

Water:

These geckos typically drink water droplets from misted surfaces. Provide a shallow dish with clean water at all times, though they may prefer drinking off leaves and enclosure surfaces after misting.

Supplementation:

  • Calcium with D3: Dust food 2-3 times weekly.

  • Calcium without D3: Use on alternating days if adequate UVB lighting is provided.

  • Multivitamins: Offer once weekly to support overall health.

With attentive care and a well-maintained environment, Gold Dust Day Geckos can thrive and bring vibrancy to any reptile collection. Their striking colors and active behavior make them a joy to observe. By meeting their specific needs, owners can enjoy a long and rewarding relationship with these dazzling creatures.
