Electric Blue Gecko Care
Lifespan:
5-10 years in captivity.
Sexing:
Sexing can be determined around 6-12 months of age. Males tend to be larger and more brightly colored than females, with more pronounced bulges at the base of the tail where the hemipenes are located.
Enclosure:
Juveniles: 10-gallon vertical enclosure (12"x12"x18").
Adults: 20-gallon vertical enclosure (18"x18"x24" minimum).
Substrate:
A loose, humidity-retaining substrate mix is recommended, such as a combination of coconut fiber and orchid bark. This mimics their natural forest floor and helps maintain humidity levels.
Lighting & Temperature:
Basking Area: 90-95°F.
Ambient Temperature: 78-85°F.
Cool Side: 75-80°F.
UVB Lighting: A 5.0 UVB bulb is recommended.
Humidity:
Humidity levels should be kept between 60-80%. Mist the enclosure daily to maintain appropriate moisture levels, and provide a humid hide to aid in shedding.
Food:
Electric Blue Geckos are insectivorous. Their diet consists mainly of small live insects, such as fruit flies, pinhead crickets, and other small invertebrates.
Water:
These geckos primarily drink water droplets from misted surfaces. Always provide a shallow dish with fresh, clean water, although they may prefer to drink from leaves and enclosure surfaces.
Supplementation:
Calcium with D3: Dust food 2-3 times weekly.
Calcium without D3: Use on alternating days if adequate UVB lighting is provided.
Multivitamins: Offer once weekly to support overall health.
When given a thoughtfully maintained environment and attentive care, Electric Blue Geckos can become a remarkable addition to any reptile collection. Their stunning coloration and unique behaviors make them a joy to observe and care for. With consistent effort, these geckos can thrive and showcase their vibrant, energetic nature, bringing life and beauty to their habitat.
