Crested Gecko Care

Lifespan:

15-20 years in captivity.

Sexing:

Sexing can be done around 6-8 months of age. Males develop pre-anal pores and hemipenal bulges, while females do not.

Enclosure:

  • Juveniles: 12"x12"x18" vertical enclosure.

  • Adults: 18"x18"x24" vertical terrarium.

Substrate:

We recommend a loose substrate that retains humidity, such as a blend of coconut fiber and orchid bark. This mix mimics their natural forest floor environment and helps maintain necessary moisture levels.

Lighting & Temperature:

  • Basking Area: Not needed

  • Ambient Temperature: 78-80°F.

  • Cool Side: 70-75°F.

  • UVB Lighting: A 5.0 UVB bulb is recommended.

*Important: High temperatures (above 85°F) can cause significant stress and overheating.

Humidity:

Crested Geckos require moderate to high humidity, between 60-80%. Mist the enclosure twice daily to maintain humidity, and provide a humid hide to assist with shedding.

Food:

Crested Geckos are omnivores. Feed them a diet of commercial powdered Crested Gecko food mixed with water, supplemented with live insects such as crickets or dubia roaches once or twice a week.

Water:

Crested Geckos will drink water droplets from misting and may drink from a shallow dish. Always ensure a clean water dish is available, though they may prefer to lick moisture from leaves or surfaces.

Supplementation:

  • Calcium with D3: Dust food 2-3 times weekly.

  • Calcium without D3: Use on alternating days if adequate UVB lighting is provided.

  • Multivitamins: Offer once weekly to support overall health.
