The Pink Toe Tarantula is a popular arboreal species native to northern South America. It’s easily recognized by its striking pink-tipped toes contrasting with a dark body, and its calm, gentle temperament makes it a favorite among tarantula keepers. Pink Toes are known for their climbing ability and tend to build silken retreats high up in their enclosure.


Lifespan:
Females: 10–12 years
Males: 3–4 years

Size:

Leg span up to 5–6 inches

Temperament:

Generally docile and slow-moving, but can be skittish and quick to retreat if disturbed.

Enclosure:

  • Moist coconut fiber or peat moss mix

    Keep substrate damp but not soggy to maintain moderate humidity

    A few inches deep to retain moisture and aid in burrowing

Keep substrate slightly damp but not wet to simulate rainforest floor conditions

Lighting & Temperature:

  • Day Temp: 75–85°F

  • No special lighting required

  • Maintain ambient temperature with heat mats or room temperature

  • Avoid direct sunlight

Humidity:

  • Moderate humidity of 70–80%

    Mist enclosure lightly 2–3 times per week

    Provide a shallow water dish to aid humidity

Food:

  • Insectivorous: crickets, roaches, small mealworms

    Feed juveniles every 3–4 days, adults once a week

    Remove uneaten prey to prevent stress

Handling:

  • Usually docile, but quick to jump or run away

  • Recommended for keepers with some experience

  • Handle gently to avoid stress and injury

Pink Toe Tarantulas have unique toe pads covered with tiny hairs that help them climb smooth surfaces like glass and leaves with ease.
