Green Bottle Blue Tarantula Care

Lifespan:
Females: 12-15 years
Males: 3–5 years

Sexing:

Mature males are leggier with longer legs, bulbous pedipalps, and tibial hooks.

Females are stockier and lack tibial hooks.

A shed exoskeleton can be examined to determine sex.

Enclosure:

  • Minimum Size: A 5–10 gallon horizontal terrarium works well, with a secure ventilated lid.

  • Use 3–4 inches of dry, compactable substrate and include anchor points like cork bark for webbing.

  • Provide a hide, though they often choose to web over the entire enclosure.

Substrate:

  • Use dry coco fiber, sand, or soil mix—keep it bone dry with good airflow.

  • They thrive in arid conditions and are prone to stress in overly humid environments.

Lighting & Temperature:

  • Day Temp: 75–85°F

  • No special lighting required

  • Maintain ambient temperature with heat mats or room temperature

  • Avoid direct sunlight

Humidity:

  • Moderate humidity of 50–60%. Do Not Mist

  • Provide a shallow water dish to aid humidity

Food:

  • Insectivorous: crickets, roaches, small mealworms

  • Feed juveniles every 3–4 days, adults once a week

  • Remove uneaten prey to prevent stress

Water:

Provide a shallow water dish with fresh water. No sponge is necessary—just keep it clean.

With its dazzling colors and energetic nature, the Green Bottle Blue Tarantula is a showstopper that adds drama and movement to any collection. Though best appreciated as a display animal, its hardiness and vivid personality make it a favorite among hobbyists and a fantastic conversation piece.
